University of Derby achieved the OpenupEd Quality label for MOOCs!

The University of Derby has received the OpenupEd Label on the 29-6-2016. By achieving this label the University of Derby demonstrates that it offers quality controlled MOOCs in compliance with benchmarks tailored to both e-learning and open education and keeps up to date with the latest developments. This means that the University is recognised as operating in a continuous process of improving their MOOC offerings. Furthermore, that it uses the OpenupEd quality instrument for benchmarked self-assessment on MOOCs and takes measures of improvement accordingly.

Julie Stone, Director of UDOL said: "I am delighted that the University has received this recognition for our online MOOC provision. It demonstrates our commitment to alternative modes of study and to ensuring that all our students receive a high quality learning experience.”

Achieving the label started by a self-assessment followed by an assessment of experts at a distance. The OpenupEd label is available for higher education institutions that offer MOOCs and is valid for three years. The label is provided by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the European association of leading institutions in online, open and flexible higher education.

So far the OpenupEd quality instrument is rewarded to eleven universities. A full overview of activities under the OpenupEd label. The benchmarks are related to the eight OpenupEd features and those of the E-xcellence label.
