Short Learning Programmes

Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) are independent learning units of variable sizes (between 5 and 30 ECTS) which are usually awarded with a certificate and are recognised in larger degree programme structures. In April 2016, 12 members of EADTU signed the EADTU Memorandum of Understanding on Short Learning Programmes. The Task Force, chaired by Theo Bastiaens, FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany, was founded to initiate a discussion on the forms, size, and functions of Short Learning Programmes. In three sessions in 2017, members explored such issues as quality criteria, quality assurance and accreditation, funding, and relationship with industry. The Task Force will be succeeded by the Erasmus+ project "European SLP’s for continuous professional development and lifelong learning – E-SLP”  which starts on 1 January 2018. In the project we will develop guidelines for collaborative curricula and mobility in order to increase the scale and impact of SLPs internationally and based on pilot studies. The project will deal with issues on the recognition of SLPs and their compliance with the (renewed) EQF as well as with quality assurance and accreditation procedures. E-SLP will further stimulate the public demand for SLPs by companies and learners by a joint webportal. Please find here the final report of the Task Force Short Learing Programmes.
